Hamburg's most stylish promenade

The good old word 'Jungfer' means virgin or lady in German. Jungfernstieg owes its name to the unmarried girls of for the most part well off Hanseatic families, who, on Sundays, were regularly gone for here for a walk - a fairly easygoing, Hanseatic transitioning convention. In 1838, Jungfernstieg turned into the primary road to be fixed with black-top. Today, this fabulous and generous promenade on the shores of the Binnenalster is one of the most exquisite shopping zones in Hamburg's downtown area.
